The KLA Carol J. Parris Mentoring Award is presented to a Kentucky librarian who has been a mentor to a librarian, library worker or library science student.
Huntsman, of Greensburg, was nominated for the award by co-worker Julie Howe. Howe serves as the Heath Science and Reference Librarian at SCC in the Learning Commons on the SCC Laurel Campus in London.
“Mary Taylor has consistently provided mentoring support to me as a new librarian, as well as to those employed as graduate workers and our colleagues at Somerset Community College,” said Howe in her nomination.
Howe goes on to say, “Additionally, Mary Taylor continues to be a positive role model by supporting those who need it most, including our homeless and veteran students as well as other diverse populations, and advocating for them when no one else will. She has provided me with countless resources for various underrepresented students, likely making the difference in retaining these students, leading them to more successful futures. These gestures helped me become a better advocate for our students, and helped me realize that they deserve our support in order to succeed.”
Huntsman is the daughter of Dr. Harry B. Huntsman and the late Ann Monarch Huntsman.
