Travis Dills of Somerset submitted the winning essay in the Kentucky Physical Therapy Association’s (KPTA) Advocacy Essay Competition and represented Kentucky at the forum, designed to open doors to future leaders within the physical therapy profession. The contest was open to physical therapist and physical therapist assistant students from the programs from across the Commonwealth. Dills met with national lawmakers to discuss issues relevant to the physical therapy profession and to participate in advocacy activities.
Specific items discussed at the forum were: the Medicare Access to Rehabilitation Services Act and the repeal of the therapy cap for outpatient rehabilitation services; the Physical Therapist Workforce and Patient Access Act; the Safe Play Act and concussion management; and the Prevent Interruptions in Physical Therapy Act.
Dills serves as president of his class and is an active member of the APTA. He has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average and has participated in the program’s participation in the Pittsburgh-Marquette Challenge, a national fundraiser for physical therapy research. He has also been appointed to the SCC PTA Program’s Advisory Board.
“Travis is just an excellent student,” said PTA Program Director Ron Meade. “He is one of those students who is academically and technically strong, is well-respected by his peers and has great leadership potential. He will make a significant and lasting impact upon our profession, I believe. We are extremely proud to have him in our program.”
Dills is the son of Mike and Sharon Dills of Somerset. He is scheduled to graduate with an Associate of Applied Science Degree from the PTA Program in May, 2016.
