An employee of Somerset Community College has received an award from the Miss Kentucky Scholarship Organization for the design and production of the program book for the Miss Somerset Community College (SCC) scholarship pageant, held in March.
Linda Daugherty, SCC print shop assistant, was recognized by the organization for “Best Program Book.” Daugherty is originally from Mt. Victory in Pulaski County, but she now resides in Laurel County. She is a 2006 graduate of the Visual Communications program at SCC. In her current role, Daugherty does graphic design and oversees the administrative and printing duties of the college’s print shop.
According to Dr. Ron Meade, director of the Miss SCC pageant, the Miss Kentucky Scholarship Organization recognizes local pageants for various aspects of their competition. These include awards for in-kind and cash scholarship amounts, pageant production and program book.
“Linda is excellent in everything that she does and I am not at all surprised that our program was recognized in this area,” said Meade. “She gives 110 percent effort in all that she does and I look forward to future collaborations with her.”
Shelby Morgan, an SCC student from Eubank, was named the winner of the 2015 Miss SCC pageant. She and Tyra Sengkhamyong of Dunnville will both represent the college in the upcoming Miss Kentucky pageant. Sengkhamyong was named Miss Somerset. She is also a student at SCC. Both contestants are in the running for the Kentucky’s Choice award, a fundraising and public voting competition. To donate, visit www.misskentuckypageant.com.
