KrugEmily Krug, emerging technologies and cataloging librarian at Somerset Community College, has been appointed as the Chair of the Communications Committee for the Kentucky Library Association’s Academic Libraries Section (ALS) and as the Chair of the Communications Committee for the entire Kentucky Library Association (KLA).

As Communications Chair for the ALS, Krug will be representing that section for the association-wide committee. She will also be responsible for communications for the Academic Libraries Section.

As Chair of the KLA Communications Committee, Krug will oversee all aspects of KLA’s social media, which currently includes Facebook and Twitter. She will also lead the selection of the award for the Kentucky Libraries outstanding article.

“The Kentucky Library Association began its Facebook and Twitter accounts earlier this fall,” said Krug. “Although we have not seen as much traffic yet as I initially hoped, both platforms are growing as ways of communicating to the members of the association and as places to network. Our Twitter feed was particularly successful during the annual fall conference, which was September 19-21 at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville, KY. During the conference, we used #KLA2012 to send out information about featured speakers, exhibits, and other conference information. Next year we plan to use #KLA2013 for the same purposes. My hope is that we have even more people who follow the conference feed and use the hash tag to let others know what they are learning at the conference.”

Krug said she is honored to be appointed to these positions.

“I hope that I can provide leadership and inspire innovation in communicating to the association and the Academic Libraries Section,” said Krug.
