In 1965 the first building on the grounds of Somerset Community College was constructed. That year, a time capsule was also sealed behind a “1965” marker on the outside of the building, known as Meece Hall. Now, 50 years later, attendees will have the opportunity to see the capsule and its contents at an opening ceremony on Wednesday, September 9 at 12 p.m. (noon) EST.
The time capsule opening will take place on the steps of Meece Hall, located on the SCC Somerset North Campus, 808 Monticello Street in Somerset. The public is invited to attend the event.
Once the capsule is opened, attendees will have the chance to view items placed in the capsule 50 years ago. Items relevant to 2015 will be placed back into the capsule and resealed, to be opened in 2065.
The time capsule opening is part of the year-long celebrations held at SCC in honor of the college’s 50th anniversary. To view the remaining celebrations and speakers, visit scc50.org.
