Applications are currently being accepted for numerous scholarship opportunities available through Somerset Community College.

March 1, 2015 is the priority deadline for scholarships. All incoming and current students are encouraged to apply.

“We encourage all students to apply for scholarships,” said JR Thompson, SCC’s scholarship coordinator. “This includes, but isn’t limited to, current high school seniors, students who have attended other colleges, homeschooled students, or students of all ages, backgrounds and regions of the SCC service area.”

Funding for scholarships at SCC comes from a variety of sources, including external funding, state, KCTCS, institutional and endowed scholarship funds. Last year, the scholarship office at SCC awarded $734,228 in funding to SCC students.

To apply, all interested students must complete the scholarship application that can be found online on the
Scholarships page of SCC's website. The scholarship application can be downloaded, printed and mailed to the address listed. Students may also visit the SCC Office of Financial Aid, located on the Somerset and Laurel Campuses, for a scholarship brochure. The application submission deadline for the Fall 2015 term is March 1, 2015 and must be postmarked by that date.

Applicants will also need a most recent transcript, a copy of the most recent federal tax return (in order to be considered for financial need scholarships) and ACT, SAT or COMPASS results.

“Through the generosity of donors and other agencies, the scholarship program at Somerset Community College has afforded students with the opportunity to earn their college degree while providing funding that offset the cost of tuition,” said Thompson. “Scholarships provide an excellent way for an individual to supplement their award package and therefore we encourage all students to apply. Although many of the scholarships are based on financial need or academic achievement, we also have scholarships for specific programs, for students from specific geographical regions, and for those who have other qualifications or needs. One former scholarship recipient wrote this in regards to his experience: ‘This scholarship relieved a significant financial burden from my shoulders. It has allowed me to avoid taking out loans that would follow me throughout my education and would have slowed down my progress. I am grateful for the assistance.’”
